This region encompasses La Pampa, habitat of the 'Gaucho', the Argentinean version of the cowboy and one of the most enduring symbols of Argentina. This immensely fertile region is amongst the richest in the country, and is known universally for the quality of the beef it produces.
The estancias (large traditional farms) in the Argentine Pampas are remarkable because of their imposing and varied architecture. They were built in different styles such as colonial Hispanic-American, but also European styles such as English Tudor, and classic French. They represent today the best places where you can get in contact with the traditional Argentinean local culture.
The Central region also includes the Atlantic coast, 'the place' for beach holidays and all forms of sea-based activities. Mar del Plata, an extremely popular Argentinean resort with its exciting city with busy nightlife; Villa Gesell, is destination of the alternative youths while Pinamar is very sophisticated and up-market resort. In the provinces of Cordoba and San Luis you will find beautiful mountain ranges well suited area for independent, adventure-minded travellers. And do not forget to spend a bit of time in the town of Cordoba itself, and view its wonderful, ancient baroque churches.
